If you do believe democracy is vital to you, the only way you can sustain it is through voting. In a representative government, You have no other choice.
But most significantly since our elections are overwhelmed by Systematic corruption which is the power of lobby and or dark money the only thing that makes the difference is your vote. There is nothing more significant to sustaining democracy than an aware voting citizen. All that money is being spent to mesmerize you and attract your vote.
The 20 million registered voters that did not vote could have changed the current state of misery. The Census Bureau estimated that there were 245.5 million Americans ages 18 and older in November 2016, about 157.6 million of whom reported being registered to vote. An actual number of votes tallied – nearly 136.8 million. Almost 110 Million eligible voters did not vote.
“Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.” Abraham Lincoln
The United States Constitution and democracy is a blessing. Do not take freedom for granted. Look at the rest the world; people are giving their life for having legitimate elections.
Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country. Franklin D. Roosevelt
Any excuse has no foundation, its either an illusion or ignorance. No matter how ineffective you might think your vote is you have to realize the only way anybody is going to listen to you is by voting.
To make democracy work, we must be a nation of participants, not simply observers. One who does not vote has no right to complain. Voting is how we participate in civic society. It’s the way we teach our children – in school elections – how to be citizens, and the importance of their voice
“[T]he vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised by man for breaking down injustice and destroying the terrible walls which imprison men because they are different from other men. A man without a vote is a man without protection.”
